Term 1

Introduction

My name is Jenna Zuraiki. I am a new student in Grade 8 EISM. We have made this blog as part of our MYP Design in Grade 8 and this is new for me. In my old school we didn't need to do a blog we worked on Microsoft word and we printed out work. In Term 1 we where working on internet safety . In Term  2 we worked on inventors and we had to make a project. Term 3 we did photo shop and we made different pictures. It was interesting work i did every term. We learnt different things every term like in term 3 we used different software for photo shop.

The MYP design makes discover and see the flaws that are presented in existing design of different type of products. It is quite hard think of a new design if we aren't able to use my critical thinking abilities. I have found out that to be a good designer you should be observant and think of things that creates problems and re-design it to make it better than it use to be

Statement of Inquiry: Products developed creatively using the technique of 3D Modelling to meet an individual's needs can increase their ability to function within the real world

Key Concept: Development

Related Concept: Ergonomics

Global Context: Personal and Cultural Expression

MYP DESIGN CYCLE

The MYP Design Cycle consists of 4 Stages:-
1) Criteria A- Inquiry and Analyzing
2) Criteria B - Developing Ideas
3) Criteria C- Creating the Solution
4) Criteria D - Evaluating the Solution

What kind of learner am I?

My SMART Goal

MYP DESIGN CYCLE EXPLAINED IN SIMPLE STEPS

DESIGN CYCLE CLASS WORK

Comic Strip

Brain Storm on 3D Printing

Exploring Tinkercad

Reflections

In the tutorial of 'Learning the moves' I learnt the controls and how you drag on piece to the other. All you do is tap the shape you want to drag and there will be a brown outline to show you the perfect way to place it and then you place it and it will look perfect.

In the tutorial 'Camera Control' I understood how to control the angles to see how it looks and where the man behind the curtain is, there is a controller in the corner of the screen that helps you see where you wether it could me the bottom the front or the back, it just helps you see how your work is looking at all angles.

In the tutorial 'Creating Holes' I learn how to make a hole for the shape. First you get a shape you want then you place it where you want, then in the right corner it says editor you press that then you select both objects and then you press shift and you have your hole.

In the tutorial 'Scale, copy, paste' I understood how to scale the shape then copy it and then past it. First you look for the shape you want then drag it to the workspace, next you add as much as you want, then you press the shape you want to scale and press it and then there will be as scale where you go up to make it higher and you go down to make it lower. Also if you want to copy all you have to do it do Control+C then to paste to Control+V.

Design Situation Syringe

The UAE Nurses Association claims that one of the most difficult parts of their job is dealing with small children who have a fear of needles. Although the association has some tips and tricks like putting numbing cream to partially freeze the surface of the skin before injecting medicine, sometimes the anxiety levels of small children are so high thatit is difficult to get them to hold still. If only there was an easier way to administer medicine within the syringe.

Design Brief Syringe

Many children are afraid of syringes because they think that the needle will hurt them. I will design a syringe and it will be shaped as a a butterfly this will be mostly for girls. It will be a child friendly design and it will help children see that syringes aren't scary, because this is for children most children will not be afraid of syringes and some might be looking forward to seeing the syringe. They color of the butterfly will be a multi-colored butterfly the colors will include blue, pink, yellow, red, orange, purple and green. The wing shape will be a v shape on the outside and on the inside it will be an eye shape.

Design Situation Phone Protector

Mobile phones are a necessity in todays age. Due to this mass usage of phone I have seen many people dropping phones for there hands which rustles in the screen cracking. Many people have trouble finding something that could help there phone screen stay safe. It's hard finding a good cover to protect there phone. Although there are covers that help protect your phone very well, the covers does look that pleasant and many people prefer a nice cover, and sometimes the best covers and protecting screens cost a lot of money. But there is an easier way that will protect your phone and make it look nice.

Design Brief Phone Protector

Everyone has a phone nowadays and they are so scared of cracking there screen. This made for everyone. I will design a little piece of rubber that you put on the corner of your phone screen so if you drop it and its face down it won't crack because it protects it from landing to the floor. It will be a corner holder, that will protect your phone and you won't need to bye a cover for your phone, you could bye a cover and it will still work. It will be a modern design that can help anyone with a phone and it can be any type of phone.

Design Situation Pen Pot

Many people have problems when finding pencil pots and making it organized. Its difficult for people to organize there pencil pots because the pens can't be separated and put in order. Also people want an easy way to find there pens and if a pen cap falls of you have to empty out the pot and find it, so it is quite a big mess when it comes to pots. Could you imagine what a mess it would be for schools, children use pots all day in school and a lot of children mess it up most of the times. But there are some pots that are nice and help it look neat but its quite expensive and its just a pot so why should it be expensive.

Design Brief Pen Pot

Lots of people want a good pen pot because they don't want to lose anything. This is made for everyone. I will design a pen pot that is separated, example on the bottom is a circles and then on top of that circle there are small circles that fit the pen you are using. This makes it easier to find pens and makes it easier to organize your pot, this could be made for pens, pencils, marker and much more. I am going to make it a simple black or white color because people have the option to design or paint the pot and it will help a lot of schools in general.

  1. In Term 1 students created the design folder in the form of blogs. As the subject caters to design technology they were opportunities to understand the design cycle through the use of videos, activity sequencing in the form of a comic strip through which students were able to get a better grasp over the subject as they progressed through the design cycle. The current unit about 3D Modelling enables students to design ergonomically designed 3D models. Students worked in collaboration by brainstorming about 3D printing and its technologies which enhanced their awareness about 3D printing. They were introduced to designing software - TinkerCAD and with the help of tutorials familiarised themselves in building objects consisting of basic shapes. Students made choices to write design situations and design briefs for modelling 3D objects. Jenna has been very enthusiastic in lessons and completing her tasks. She is encouraged to put in more content in his reflections and brainstorm sessions. She needs to provide evidence for the design situations identified. You are currently at a level 5/8.
